Surviving Tax Season!

As a twenty something year old myself I know how stressful and hectic tax season can be! I have filed by myself for the past four years and it does not seem to get any easier, so I thought I would give you some tips to soften the blow just a little bit. I am not a tax expert nor am I a lawyer so everything I am sharing here is based upon my experience and my experiences only.

  • DO THEM NOW.

The quicker you get them done the more time you have to fix any corrections before that April 15th deadline. Also the quicker you have the money in your bank account if you are getting any money returned to you. It gives you more time to have someone look over them instead of rushing at the last minute. It's just better to not be stressed and not have that date looming over you for the next few weeks.

  • Keep all of your tax documents in one safe place.

The most important thing to do when you receive anything from the IRS or your job in regards to your taxes are keep them safe. If you misplace one paper it can throw your whole return off and then you have to wait even longer to receive a replacement. I know not all of us are organized and clean but this is one of those things you need to be organized and clean about!

  • Do not forget any donations you made during the year.

Donations are a great way to bring the money you may owe to the government down a bit. Now I am not saying just go donate a bunch of money so that you can have a deduction on your taxes. But I am saying is if you have causes you care deeply about definitely look for ways you can donate to them during the year and keep track of it because then you can make a deduction on your taxes!

  • Use TurboTax.

TurboTax has been my Holy Grail for tax season for the past four years. It walks you through everything for free and tries to help you understand what information is needed and how it affects your return! Literally I tell everyone to use it and I am not even getting paid to say it!

If you have any other tips and tricks that could help others out please leave it in the comments below and as always keep thriving!
