Two can be better than one and when it comes to Outspeak Marketing it definitely is! Here is our interview Fatima and Anna the founders and power duo behind it all!
Tell us a little bit about yourself and your work?
Fatima and Anna: We are rising seniors at William & Mary studying marketing. Fatima is originally from Nicaragua and Anna is from North Carolina.
Outspeak Marketing: We are a social media marketing agency on a mission to launch and empower female entrepreneurs through creative strategies, authentic social media, and personalized branding.
- When thinking about the meaning of Outspeak, we realized that part of our truth was to uplift women while helping them and their business succeed.
The following are the different services we offer to our female small business owner clientele:
- Social media management, where we completely manage an account so the client can focus on running the parts of their business they love
- Branding and design services such as websites, brochures, business cards, and so on, and
- Branding workshops and courses on the importance of personal branding and best practices for social media
Outspeak has only been alive and running for a year as of this month after an exciting journey.

What is your biggest passion in life and how do you incorporate this into your work?
Prior to starting Outspeak, we both had engaged in various political movements, networks, events, and organizations with the purpose of advancing women’s rights; therefore, female empowerment is a cause that is very dear to our heart. The Outspeak brand is an embodiment of each of us individually and together, as two female, creatives. With that, the creating our name (which entrepreneurs know is the MOST difficult “getting started” step) was a reflection of our shared experience. As two women who often are called “outspoken” in a negative way for our passion perceived as brashness in personal to professional to classroom settings, we wanted to reclaim this word.
We created the word Outspeak as an active form of the word “outspoken” — so you choose to outspeak, rather than be called outspoken. Almost all of our clients who were drawn to us are women who left their established industry, whether that was corporate america or a big retailer, to start out on their own because they knew they could do it better. It’s these stories of outspokenness that couldn't be silence that continue to drive our brand today.
When thinking about the meaning of the word outspeak, which we gave the definition “to speak your truth boldly,” we realized that part of our truth was to uplift women and help them/their businesses succeed. It became clear to us pretty soon that zeroing in on that female-centric purpose made the most sense.
How do you take care of your mental and physical health?
Fatima: I like to spend time doing things that make me happy and relaxed. During the week I like to journal and just write down everything that is on my mind. During the weekends I prioritize sleep, reading, creative hobbies, and spending time with family.
How do you keep yourself organized as a person who wears many hats in their life?
Fatima: I like to reserve time in my mornings to plan out my day and prioritize my agenda. I do this by writing out lists and setting realistic goals for the day- for my lists I like to use Trello on my computer or phone. I also make sure to create “business hours” for myself to balance my life as an entrepreneur and also as a student, friend, and active community member. This way, I prevent burnout and create a healthy boundary between work and school.
What are some things you think are important for people in their early twenty's to learn?
That we learn by taking risks. We don’t have to have everything figure out or be perfect at something- we just have to take risks, try new things, be open to failure, and learn along the way. We are never too young to go after our dream, in fact, there will never be a perfect timing, so why not in your twenties? Our society creates expectations as to where we should be in our lives, careers, education, etc… but we can create our own paths.
What do you define success and prosperity as in your life?
For me success is doing something that I love and that is meaningful to me, while having time to pursue my passions, spend time with friends and family, and travel! Prosperity is to be in a constant state of growth and learning.
