Part 1

Mental Health.
Something that affects people on a daily basis whether they want it to or not. Something that can change a person’s life and perspective within seconds. Since being in college my knowledge of my own mental health escalated very quickly once I decided to take it more seriously.
Two years ago I was diagnosed with depression, an anxiety disorder and an adjustment disorder. On the one hand I was very happy to hear the diagnosis because it explained so much as to why I reacted to situations differently and why I couldn't seem to stay happy for more than a couple hours. But on the other hand I was frightened I had no idea that all of this could be going on in my brain and couldn’t comprehend why this was happening to me. All I could hear was my father calling me crazy and someone who needed serious help and feeling as though he was right.
Thanks to Covid I have been able to come to terms with these new findings and start taking my mental health more seriously. I finally started taking medication to help with my depression three months ago along with continuously talking to a counselor and psychologist. I have started to put my needs and wants more than others and have taken more days to just rest and focus on me.
In this series I am going to share my mental health through 3 stages of my life and different circumstances that have brought this about and how I continue to grow on this journey!
