Emily danced into my life 2 months ago along with the community she has created at Seacoast Stillettos and here is her story!
Tell us a little bit about yourself and your work?
My name is Emily Chandra and I am the owner and founder of Seacoast Stilettos! Seacoast Stilettos is a community where we hold empowering dance classes with a focus on inclusion, confidence building and liberation through movement. I started holding sensual movement and heels dance classes shortly after the Me Too Movement. After surviving an abusive relationship I needed a way to feel safe once again in my body. Turns out, we all long for safety and expression and these classes started to blow up! We now offer dance classes daily from heels to hip hop, contemporary to cardio and everything in between. With a diverse staff and community that represents all bodies, backgrounds and walks of life- Seacoast Stilettos has become a Movement!
What is your biggest passion in life and how do you incorporate this into your work?
I have many passions and I think they all show up in what I do. Social Justice, Dance & Creativity, Spirituality and Community just to name a few.
How do you take care of your mental and physical health?
Dance and (hot) Yoga is my magic formula. I love to break up the routine with some of our cardio classes like Werq, and weightlifting sometimes!
How do you keep yourself organized as a person who wears many hats in their life?
Delegate, delegate, delegate! This is such a new concept for me. But I cannot take on all of this by myself while remaining true and grounded in what I am meant to do in the world if I'm overwhelmed. I recently have asked for help with project management, marketing, have hired an assistant for check in, and have help with out Tik Tok account! Ask for help. It doesn't make you any less of a CEO (or boss bitch!), in fact, it accelerates that process.
What are some things you think are important for people in their early twenty's to learn?
To get excited (not dread) your 30's- because they are amazing. Also to be okay with not having everything figured out. Follow where the happiness is, that will take you where you need to be. Anddd all the earth shattering events you may be experiencing are going to shape you into an incredibly inspiring and bad ass human being.
What do you define success and prosperity as in your life?
Freedom, Love & Joy. In business, in personal, in body, in mind, in soul.
What legacy do you want to leave behind?
The idea...whether it takes place in a space I've created or not- but the idea that dance can be something beyond just the steps. That we can transcend the harm and oppression that has been passed down and fight for one another's rights to feel safe, supported and celebrated. Beyond the walls of a dance studio, but for life.
What is your greatest accomplishment to date?
Founding Seacoast Stilettos!
What characteristics/traits do you pride yourself the most for having?
Work ethic, Groundedness, Empathy.
